GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS AND MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION POLICIES

1. Thematic Focus and Scope

The International Journal of Sustainable Applied Innovation & Research (J-SAIR) publishes articles that meet international standards of academic and scientific quality, presenting relevant elements such as bibliographic references, methodologies based on scientific experimental design, and statistical support. Additionally, the journal requires a theoretical foundation in the discussion of results and conclusions that contribute to the sustainable development of society and the environment.

The type of article to which the proposal corresponds must be specified:

  • Original Articles (Original Articles/Papers): Original Articles present the results of original, unpublished scientific or technological research that contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge within the journal’s thematic scope. Manuscripts must clearly state the research problem, objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions, demonstrating scientific rigor, reproducibility, and analytical depth. The recommended structure includes: Title (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Abstract (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Keywords (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements (optional), and References. Articles should contain between 7,000 and 8,000 words and include a minimum of 40 current and relevant references, preferably with a substantial proportion published within the last five years.

  • Reviews (Reviews/Systematic Reviews): Review Articles provide a critical, comprehensive, and structured analysis of the scientific literature on a specific topic relevant to the journal’s scope. These manuscripts should identify advances, trends, knowledge gaps, challenges, and future research opportunities, contributing to the consolidation of the state of the art in a field. Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and bibliometric studies are especially encouraged and should follow internationally recognized methodological guidelines when applicable. The recommended structure includes: Title (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Abstract (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Keywords (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Introduction, Review Methodology, Literature Analysis and Synthesis, Research Trends and Knowledge Gaps, Conclusions, and References. Manuscripts should have an equivalent length of 13 to 15 journal pages, including the reference list, and contain between 50 and 100 up-to-date references.

  • Case Reports: Case Reports or Case Studies present detailed analyses of specific experiences, interventions, projects, technologies, organizations, communities, productive systems, or extension and technical assistance processes that provide valuable lessons for sustainability, innovation, or development. These manuscripts should describe the context, objectives, methodological approach, implementation process, outcomes obtained, and lessons learned, emphasizing their practical relevance and potential for replication. The recommended structure includes: Title (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Abstract (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Keywords (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Introduction, Context and Description of the Case, Methodological Approach, Results or Findings, Discussion and Lessons Learned, Conclusions, and References. Manuscripts should contain between 2,500 and 4,000 words and cite at least 15 current references.

  • Reflection Article: A Reflection Article presents research results from the author's analytical, interpretative, or critical perspective on a specific topic, based on original sources and supported by the relevant scientific literature. These contributions should go beyond a simple literature review by providing conceptual, theoretical, methodological, ethical, social, or policy-oriented reflections that enrich scholarly debate. The recommended structure includes: Title (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Abstract (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Keywords (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Introduction, Development of the Critical Argument, Discussion, Conclusions, and References. Manuscripts should contain between 5,000 and 6,000 words and include at least 25 current and relevant references.

  • Short Articles or Notes (Short Communications/Letters): Short Articles or Research Notes communicate original preliminary findings, methodological advances, innovative experiences, technical developments, pilot studies, or emerging research results that require rapid dissemination due to their novelty and potential scientific or practical impact. Although shorter in length than full research articles, they must maintain the same standards of scientific quality and methodological rigor. The recommended structure includes: Title (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Abstract (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Keywords (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, and References. Manuscripts should contain between 3,000 and 3,500 words and include a maximum of 20 references.

  • Editorials: Editorials are concise scholarly contributions prepared by the Editor-in-Chief, members of the Editorial Board, guest editors, or invited experts. These manuscripts address topics related to the journal’s editorial policies, emerging research trends, sustainability challenges, scientific communication, innovation, public policies, or issues of strategic relevance to the journal's readership. Editorials are generally commissioned by the editorial team and are not normally subjected to external peer review. The recommended structure includes: Title (English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in that order), Main Text, and References (optional). Editorials should contain between 800 and 1,500 words and do not require references; however, when necessary, a maximum of 10 references may be included.

Authors should keep the following in mind:

a) With the exception of the first page, the document must not contain any information that could identify the authors.
b) Documents must be submitted to the journal in the format specified by the journal and in digital form.
c) Footnotes are for the exclusive use of the journal’s editorial staff and may not be used to present the bibliography.
d) Authors must be able to provide the information requested by the reviewers.
e) Manuscripts submitted for publication are accepted year-round; however, submission does not obligate the Editorial Board of the Journal of Sustainable Applied Innovation & Research (J-SAIR) to publish the article.
f) The evaluation process will then begin with the submission of a copy of the material to two experts in the field who are members of the Scientific Advisory Committee, so that they may independently assess the potential for publication of the work, considering the following criteria: academic quality or level, originality, contribution to knowledge and teaching, clarity of presentation, clarity of writing and literature, and the relevance and timeliness of the topic.
g) Once the reviews have been collected - which may result in full acceptance, acceptance with revisions, or rejection - the results are communicated to the author so that, if necessary, the author can make the appropriate adjustments or revisions; once the author has incorporated the revisions requested by the reviewers, the articles are sent to a copyeditor to begin the editing process.
h) The article may not appear in any mass media without the express authorization of the coordination of the International Network for Innovation and Sustainable Development.

In this context, please note that manuscripts and correspondence may be sent to the editor, along with a letter addressed to the editor requesting blind peer review of the article, at the following address:
