Biological Production of Glucose Syrup from Dominico-Hartón Banana Peel (Musa paradisiaca spp.): Effect of Ripening Stage and Electromagnetic Field Pretreatment

Abstract: Plantain peel valorization enabled sustainable glucose syrup production through Trichoderma viride hydrolysis. Ripe and overripe peels showed superior fermentable sugar availability and hydrolysis performance. Electromagnetic field application enhanced starch-to-glucose conversion, viscosity, and microbial activity. Glucose content increased after 72 h, especially at higher substrate concentrations, improving process efficiency.

Abstract: This study evaluated planting distance and biostimulant application in sesame cultivated on raised beds under Cuban conditions. A 0.60 m spacing produced the best growth and yield performance. Bioenraiz Plus® and seaweed extract significantly enhanced growth variables and yield components, demonstrating their potential for sustainable sesame production systems.
Circular Valorization of Musa spp. Pseudostem as a Functional Feed Ingredient in Multinutrient Blocks for Ruminants: Effects of Origin and Ensiling on Nutritional and Physicochemical Properties

Abstract: This study assessed the effects of geographical origin and ensiling on multinutrient blocks produced from Musa spp. pseudostem for ruminant feeding. Ensiling achieved stable fermentation (pH 3.75-4.25), while blocks reached 30.0-35.5% crude protein and adequate nutrient content. Results demonstrate a sustainable strategy for agro-industrial residue valorization and livestock nutrition.
Irrigation Levels in Chrysanthemum [Chrysanthemum morifolium (Ramat. & Kitam.)] Mother Plants under Protected Conditions

Abstract: This study evaluated irrigation levels for chrysanthemum propagation under protected conditions in Mexico. Increasing available water to 60% improved water status, survival (97%), plant height, and stem diameter. However, maximum dry biomass occurred at 40-50% water availability. Results indicate irrigation can be reduced to 30% without affecting plant development.

Abstract: This study evaluated polyethylene glycol-induced water stress on germination of hybrid and native maize cultivars. Germination dynamics, percentage, and Maguire index effectively assessed stress responses. Hybrid maize showed higher germination under optimal conditions but experienced greater reductions in vigor under severe water deficit, indicating lower drought tolerance than native maize.

Abstract: This study reports the first occurrence of Hadronotus obesus parasitizing Euschistus heros eggs in soybean fields in Brazil. Of 31 eggs collected, 26 parasitoids emerged, resulting in 83.87% parasitism. The findings confirm the species’ association with a major soybean pest and highlight its potential importance in biological control programs.
Similarity and Convergence of Plant Composition as Tools for the Sustainable Management of Suburban Farms in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba

Abstract: This study assessed plant community similarity and convergence among suburban farms in Santiago de Cuba using ecological indicators. High species richness was recorded across all properties, with most associations showing moderate similarity (0.41-0.60) and ecological subordination (46-65%). The proposed color-scaled convergence matrix improved integrated ecological interpretation and sustainable management planning.

Administrative Evaluation of the Tannery José Ramón Martínez in the Municipality of Guanajay, Artemisa Province

Abstract: This study developed improvement actions for the “José Ramón Martínez” tannery in Cuba to enhance technological efficiency and sustainability. Using interviews, observations, and SWOT analysis, internal and external factors were identified. The resulting action plan addressed operational weaknesses and opportunities, supporting environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable leather production.
